Madere - Pico Ruivo (1862 m)

Pico Ruivo is the tallest mountain on Madeira. We therefore had to climb it :-)

The team (including the photograph)

The trip starts from a parking lot near Pico de Arieiro, which is the third largest top of the island with its 1818 m. But it does not mean that we only went 44m uphill. It was more 780m.. and quite steep ones!

Astonishing view on the valleys below and the other tops around. And of course on the numerous trees and flowers along the way.

Beautiful alpine view

Some remainders of a forest fire a couple of years ago

The visibility could change very quickly according to the wind direction and clouds position, but all in all we were lucky and could enjoy most of the scenary.

As to the path, it was as usual on the island of good quality. We nearly regretted having our heavy hiking shoes on, as it was probably manageable with lighter ones!

Still a lot to say about Madeira, but today, we get ready for leaving to Las Palmas (Canary Islands)! We'll be 3 on-board this time, since Marie's brother, Sam, who has been with us for a week, flies back to France from the Canaries. Looking forward to some sailing!
