Crossing Conception Bay

Western part of Bell Island
We spent the week-end in Long Pond, home of the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club, one of the few marinas in Newfoundland. We indeed needed all a marina can offer: a diesel dock, fresh water to fill our tanks, laundry, and especially ... a good shower. It was good to see that the club was very active: the boats were getting ready for the (very short) season!

We also got to know very nice people: Caroline, working for the Canadian Research Council (a very similar job to mine in Norway actually), and Pierre who owns a coffee import company. We had fun, and we must thank them for their warm welcome. And generosity!:  l'Olonnois is now loaded with several pounds of excellent coffee. It will help for the long night watches on our way home :-)

Bye bye Long Pond!

Today we set sails at around noon in the direction of Bay of Verde. In other words, we went "down" (that was actually North) and crossed Conception Bay. Despite the 40knots that were blowing on Sunday, the sea was flat. The wind was just perfect, which allowed us to fly our big spinnaker for most of the way.

Important detail: for some instants, we measured a temperature of 20.7 degrees C :-)

Impressive Bell Island
